Course description: Technologies for information management is a core subject that emphasizes the understanding of the theory and practical usage of technologies for managing information. The course explores tools used in managing information, the various types of open source software applications for information management, the process involved in library automation, library functions for automation, library management system as Management Information System, system implementation, open source integrated library system, the internet in library automation and digital libraries.
Course objectives:
- The student will be able to identify applications of technology used in managing information
- The student will have the ability and competencies in using software applications in information management.
- The student will be able to use suitable selection criteria in planning library automation.
- The student will have an understanding of the functions and features of an integrated library information system and to know their differences.
